Back when I was a boy, before there was a Wal-Mart or Amazon, our family went Christmas shopping the old-fashioned way. Once every year, the basement of the local hardware store transformed into a magical toy chest where me and my sisters would Oh and Ah over the toys that now graced the metal shelves of the Hugh Saum’s Store.
Here’s a copy of my parent’s invoice after Christmas shopping for us kids in 1967!
A couple of things that I noticed after reading the invoice:
Oct. 20, 1967…Christmas shopping wasn’t left to the last moment!
Sold by ZN…which stands for Zane Neff, manager of the store, our neighbor in Edinburg, Virginia and Father to one of my childhood friends.
The football game is pictured below.
The “Farmer Says” was probably the best purchase EVER!
Hoping the Pee Wee Dream House had nothing to do with Pee Wee Herman:)))
Here’s a picture of that football game hanging on the den’s wall 51 years later!
